My brother has a 06 Town & Country SWB 3.3, approx 70k on her.

The power window started making noise yesterday like a masonry chipper, like a wild wolverine stuck inside a metal box, or (more likely) like a really bad window. It is still on the track as far as he can tell and will operate, just with a horrible noise.

Anybody have any experience with this? Lubrication issue? Needs a new motor? New track? New _____ ?

Here is a '62 Tornado Talisman for your trouble:

I know! I actually found it on B.A.T., and I just couldn't help but instantly fall in love.

Any Caravan/T&C experts out there?

Despite having been around T&Cs/GCs somewhat, I can't really say. However, there are some tests that you can try - like seeing if it makes the noise when you're "helping" the window up, and whether it shows up going down. Odds are good that if the track is messed up enough to pop or grind, the gear drive on the motor is probably in bad shape, and very possibly the sector it engages too. Or, it could just be the motor underdrive - hard to say.

Likely a new motor at the minimum.

As far as car windows in general, I would get the door panel off asap, and asses what is going on. It probably needs lubrication at least. Does the window go up and down normally? Does it seem like the gearbox is slipping? Does the sound, sound like a straining motor, or gears skipping? If its gears skipping, you probably have to buy a new regulator assembly. Buy an OEM one. They are a lot more expensive, but usually aftermarket regulators are way lower quality.

If it is just a strained motor, go in, clean everything off with some wd-40 or some such thing and a rag. Then lubricate it with some white lithium, so it sticks on there for the long haul. Those regulators pull cables through a lot of pulleys, so a bit of friction, can really make it hard on the motor.

I can't imagine a town and country has a really different regulator than most other cars.

Could it be just a dirty window and dirty weather stripping?

Goes up and down just fine. No apparently motor strain noises, just the "jungle sounds" . No popping or grinding heard.

I think its more motor oriented & car is relatively clean.

As I've never seen it, I would assume you are closer to the problem than I, I just know that a film on the window(like smoke film) and a dry weatherstripping rubbing together will produce a very very annoying noise.
